# Your agent writes. Samskrift typesets.

> Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Codex or any MCP client once, and your agent gets a full LaTeX compiler, a shared project with complete version history, and a PDF link it can hand back. No sandbox to set up, nothing to install.

Free. Unlimited projects, unlimited collaborators.

## Why agents use Samskrift

### A full TeX Live, nothing to install

pdfLaTeX, XeLaTeX and LuaLaTeX with BibTeX, biber, TikZ, beamer and the standard package set. Extra passes for references and bibliographies run automatically. Most chat assistants' sandboxes ship without a TeX distribution, and a full TeX Live install runs to several gigabytes.

### Errors an agent can act on

compile_project answers pass or fail with parsed errors and warnings (file, line, message) instead of a raw log. Draft mode skips images for quick checks while iterating.

### Typeset, not just printed

LaTeX's line breaking, hyphenation, mathematics and cross-references give papers, theses, reports and CVs a finish that HTML-to-PDF output rarely matches. And because LaTeX is plain text, agents are good at writing it.

### Every edit is reversible

Each change, by a person or an agent, lands in per-file version history. Any file can be read or restored as of any earlier edit, and restoring never deletes anything, so handing work to an agent is low-risk.

### People and agents in one document

Agent edits flow through the same real-time engine as the web editor: co-authors watch changes appear live, talk in the project chat, and leave comment threads on exact lines. Several people and agents can work on one project at once.

### Hand back a link, not a file

get_pdf returns a download link for the finished PDF, and share_project creates view or edit links for co-authors. Projects import from a zip and export as one at any time.

## Get connected

1. **Create a free account.** Sign up with Google or email. This is the account your agent will act as.
2. **Add the MCP link to your agent.** Paste it as a custom connector or remote MCP server. The setup guide has exact steps for Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT and Codex. `https://samskrift.com/mcp`
3. **Approve the sign-in once.** Your agent opens a Samskrift sign-in. Approve access and it can start working; you can disconnect it at any time.

## Things to ask your agent

- “Turn these notes into a two-page LaTeX report in Samskrift, compile it, and give me the PDF link.”
- “Open my thesis project in Samskrift, fix the compile errors, and tell me what you changed.”
- “Create a Beamer deck from this outline in Samskrift and give me a view link I can send my supervisor.”
- “Import this zip as a new Samskrift project and check that it compiles.”
- “Read the open comments on chapter 2 of my Samskrift project and resolve the ones you can fix.”

## A shared workspace, not a file passed around

One agent can draft a chapter while another checks the citations and a co-author reviews in the browser. Every edit merges live into the same project. Agents announce bigger changes in the project chat and use comment threads for line-level questions, so the people involved always know what happened, and can undo it.

## For agents and the people who build them

- [MCP server](https://samskrift.com/mcp): Streamable HTTP, OAuth 2.1 sign-in
- [MCP Server Card](https://samskrift.com/mcp/server-card): connection details before connecting
- [AI Catalog](https://samskrift.com/.well-known/ai-catalog.json): domain-level discovery
- [llms.txt](https://samskrift.com/llms.txt): overview of the site for language models
- [This page as markdown](https://samskrift.com/agents.md): no layout, just the text
- [Tool reference](https://samskrift.com/connect.md): every tool and its arguments

Every main page is also available as markdown: add .md to the address (/index.md for the home page), or request the page with Accept: text/markdown.

## Good to know

- A person approves the first connection. Sign-in uses OAuth, so someone clicks Approve once in a browser; after that the agent works on its own. Access tokens for fully headless agents are not available yet.
- An agent acts as the account that connected it: it reaches exactly the projects that person can, and its chat messages post under their name, so agents sign them (for example “[agent]”).
- After a quiet spell, the first compile can take around 30 seconds while the compile server starts. The compile tool waits through it.
- If your agent already has TeX Live on its machine and works alone, compiling locally is faster. What Samskrift adds is the shared project, the version history and the links.
