Why Samskrift exists
Samskrift is built by two software engineers working at an applied AI company who also happen to spend their summers working at math camps. We were seriously limited by recent free-tier restrictions on our default LaTeX collaboration service: compilation time was too low for our heaviest math lessons, and collaboration was too restrictive. Many of our teachers are students whose universities do not provide a paid subscription, and who would not pay for the service themselves.
So we decided to build our own. As many programmers do when working on passion projects, we decided to put more than the bare-minimum effort into it. We weaved in all the external tools we used to use with our last LaTeX editor into a more complete and seamless experience. Some of our favorite parts are: built-in instant draw-to-find symbols, image-to-TeX, unlimited collaborators, simple table editing, offline sync, and inline editing that makes modifying complex tables and figures as easy as just asking for it. We also designed the tool to work for both humans and AI assistants from the start: full collaboration through MCP.
We want to offer this functionality for free, as far as possible. We hope you enjoy the product and we welcome any . We iterate quickly.
